Bradford Community Payback projects
Bowling Allotments
The Bowling allotment project (shown in photo continues to thrive. The first crops of broad beans and potatoes have been distributed to the lunch clubs we run. Our teams have helped two other charities set up allotments on the site as well as assisting the Youth Offending Team and a local school with their plots.
Holy Trinity Church Queensbury
A team are pruning the overgrown trees and using the thicker branches to make kindling. Footpaths through the graveyard are being reinstated then clearance work between the graves can proceed safely. Other work will include painting the old Victorian railings and gates. The congregation is very pleased with the work being done.
Cricket clubs
At Salem Cricket Club and Great Horton Church Cricket Club teams are improving the grounds particulary the outfields which had got out of control. Both clubs encourage young people to join and thus keep them away from crime.
The Springfield Project
At the Springfield project a team is helping set out footpaths and make gardens. Offenders are doing the main work and then youngsters at risk of being drawn into crime are putting the finishing touches to the jobs. There has been a reduction in vandalism as the children are proud of their work and want to protect it.
Future projects include a large clean up at Woodhead Fields and painting and decorating at South Bradford Vocational Centre.
We now have 21 individual placements with new ones coming on board on a regular basis. Two of these are The Abundant Life Centre and Bowling Youth Centre.
